About us

The 28th North Gloucestershire Regiment of Foot is a new group which will officially become active on the 6th December 2008. Currently we consist of a small group of men and women who are all experienced re-enactors with a background of Napoleonic living history and re-enactment with other groups. We already have most of the basic tents and cooking equipment needed to begin life as a fully fledged group. What we need now are enthusiastic new members who are as keen as we are to bring this great regiment to life again.

Our current members are based in Gloucestershire and Wiltshire however we would welcome interest from elsewhere in the UK so long as you are mobile and able to travel to some of our events which may take place anywhere in the UK or Europe. As a matter of interest the 28th had spent a long period stationed in Ireland and at the time of the battle of Waterloo had a large proportion of Irish officers and men.

Our intention is to re-create the life of the soldiers, their wives and children, and the various civilians that followed them around the world during part of the period known as the Napoleonic wars. We decided to run our period from 1802 rather than from the beginning of the wars because our regiment won the unique right to wear the sphinx badge on the back of their hats at the battle of Alexandria in 1801. You can read all about that and their many other battle honours under the HISTORY button.
